today

today i loved being a teacher because my kids were awesome. they finished their non-fiction reports, so we had a major celebration with cheese and crackers and fake "wine" in fancy glasses. they read their reports to an audience and you wouldn't believe how many parents and grandparents and siblings showed up. it was soooo cool! they were so good...attentive and patient and only got a little bit antsy towards the very end. today i loved being a teacher.

i mostly love the part that involves working with the kids...earlier this week we talked about the peanut butter contamination when we should've been doing reading (oops), but you know what...they love school. they all do. even the kids that pretend that they don't love it, and that's what's cool. if i could just teach those kids and do cool stuff with them and skip all the meetings and rules and curriculum and standards, i would absolutely love my job. unfortunately, everyone is trying to ruin all the fun for the kids and teachers. they think they're doing "what's best for the kids" but really, they have no clue. they make rules from their comfy office chairs and have never been in a classroom to see what kids "really need" kids NEED to talk about peanut butter contamination and warts and weird, interesting stuff that peaks their curiousity and then they WILL read and write and all that other stuff...because they want to not because they're chained to their desks and ordered to.
