so, i decided about a month ago that i was going to join the peace corps and move to costa rica. i filled out all the paperwork and applied...i waited ...with high hopes of changing the world and my life. about a week ago i got a packet from the peace corps. i've passed the initial screening and just need to fill out a few more things and sign up for an interview with a recruiter...however, that packet terrified me. it talked about saying goodbye to loved ones and civilization as i know it, and preparing to spend 2+ years with strangers who don't speak the language i do and may not have phones, computers, or electricity. i chickened out. i don't want to say goodbye to my loved ones. i think i might try to find a service opportunity that's a little less intense.

Dear Jayme, I was glad to read this as I am a chicken mom. I love you.
Don't worry about chickening out. At least you tried. There is so much you can do here where you can still communicate with those you love.
what an experience it would be though...
just work @ Earl May amongst all the beautifull flowers & pretend your in Costa Rica & i can always put on a loin cloth if you think you need to be around the natives!!! The ladies would love that who come in with my tan legs!
